FENC Fiji APPEALS TO YOU: PLEASE ENABLE US TO ASSIST THE VICTIMS OF TROPICAL CYCLONE WINSTON, ESPECIALLY THE CHILDREN!
Tropical Cylcone Winston, with wind gusts in excess of 340kmh, has caused monumental devastation across a large part of our country. In addition to the many who died, this Cyclone has left thousands homeless and without access to shelter, food and safe drinking water.
The victims of this Cyclone desperately need relief assistance. They need your support.
FENC Fiji is particularly concerned about the suffering which Cyclone Winston has inflicted upon children who are now homeless, and who have lost their clothes, school belongings ( books, uniforms, shoes, etc) and who are unable to attend school. Some schools have been completely destroyed.
Immediate Relief Appeal
Immediately after Cyclone Winston hit Fiji, FENC Fiji, in partnership with Aspire Network, launched a Cyclone Relief Appeal on Monday 22nd February 2016. Within Fiji, its people at large and various other organizations have also been quick to respond.
FENC Fiji mobilized a core group of volunteers who have been packing relief items and to be ready for the first delivery on Saturday 27th February 2016. This effort will continue for at least the next four weeks.
FENC Fiji is working and coordinating closely with DISMAC (Government’s Disaster Management Organization) and with other agencies in order to avoid duplication of effort, and to ensure that the relief support being provided by donors get to those who are most in need.
FENC Fiji as a Conduit
Many organizations and individuals have previously, during normal times, used FENC Fiji as a conduit for distribution to the poorest of the poor, items like reading books, school uniforms, clothings, shoes, etc. FENC Fiji has been happy and honoured to work with these donors.
Now, in the wake of the magnitude of the devastation caused by Cyclone Winston and the pain and suffering which many thousands of Fiji’s people are having to endure, there are many individuals, groups, organizations, and friends of Fiji overseas who will want to provide relief support, in cash or kind.
If you are one of these many individuals, groups, organizations or friends of Fiji, and you need a suitable conduit to handle and channel your support to the most needy in Fiji now, please consider choosing FENC Fiji for this purpose.
For donors from overseas who wish to send relief support in kind (such as non-perishable food, water, clothing, etc., please note that the Government of Fiji has announced that all import duty and VAT on such relief items will be waived. The link regarding this is http://www.fiji.gov.fj/Media-Center/Press-Releases/HON-PM-BAINIMARAMA-STATEMENT-ON-DISASTER-RELIEF-EF.aspx.
Many of the children of the poorest of the poor families in Fiji whom FENC Fiji supports are affected by Cyclone Winston. These include those living in areas not in the direct path of Cyclone Winston.
For these children, plus many many more, the conditions have only gotten worse. They will need new school items such as uniforms, sandals, stationery, and books, particularly as many of those items have perished during the Cyclone and the flooding that followed it.
FENC Fiji’s core services are to provide for these children who are unable to buy these school items.
For those who wish to assist directly for the needy children for school-related support, and you wish to donate in cash for such purpose, the FENC Fiji Bank account details are as follows:
Name of Account: Foundation for the Education of Needy Children in Fiji ( FENC Fiji)
Name of Bank: Bank of the South Pacific, BSP
Branch: Suva Central
Account Number: 7872849

Kindly note that cash donations are also needed and would be welcomed for FENC Fiji to assist with the purchase, packing and distribution of other immediately and urgently needed items.
